Congratulations on starting your student job! Once you are approved to begin working, you can earn wages by accurately recording your hours and completing your payroll requirements.

How You Get Paid
Student employment earnings are paid directly to you, regardless of whether your position is funded through work-study. You are paid on a biweekly schedule through direct deposit (recommended); or paper check mailed to your address on file.
To help make sure you are paid on time:
- Record your hours accurately in Workday after each shift.
- Submit your timecard by the deadline each pay period.
- Review your hours before submitting your timecard.
- Check your Workday account for payroll information and paystubs.

Student employment earnings are taxable income. Student employees must complete federal and state tax withholding forms as part of the hiring process.

As a student employee, you are responsible for accurately recording all hours worked in Workday and following ºÚÁÏÕýÄÜÁ¿'s wage and hour requirements.
ºÚÁÏÕýÄÜÁ¿'s workweek runs Saturday through Friday. The workday begins at 12:00 a.m. and ends at 11:59 p.m. These timeframes are used to determine overtime eligibility.

Overtime
Student employees are eligible for overtime pay when applicable under state and federal requirements.
Overtime may apply when you work:
- More than 8 hours in a single workday
- More than 40 hours in a workweek
- The 7th consecutive day in a workweek
Overtime hours are paid at 1.5 times your regular hourly rate. Double-time pay may apply in certain situations.
Important: Always report all hours worked. You should never work "off the clock" or perform work that is not recorded in Workday.
Meal Breaks
If you work more than 5 hours in a day, you must take an unpaid meal break of at least 30 minutes. If your total workday is 6 hours or less, you may by selecting the appropriate meal break waiver option in Workday when you enter your time.
If you work more than 6 hours, you must take your required meal break. Your supervisor is responsible for ensuring you are able to take required meal breaks.
Rest Breaks
Student employees are entitled to paid rest breaks based on the number of hours worked.
If you have questions or are unable to take required breaks, speak with your supervisor or contact Human Resources.

Your first paycheck will be issued after:
- Your hiring process is complete.
- You have worked during a completed pay period.
- Your timecard has been submitted and approved.
No. Work-study is a funding source for your position; it does not change how or when you receive your paycheck. Your wages are paid through the regular payroll process.
Contact your supervisor as soon as possible if you miss the timecard deadline.
Timecards lock on Monday morning after the pay period closes. If you attempt to enter your hours and your timecard is locked, you will need to wait until Wednesday afternoon or later, when time entry becomes available again.
Once your timecard is unlocked:
- Enter your missed hours.
- Submit your timecard.
- Ensure your supervisor approves your hours.
You will receive payment on the next available payroll date, as long as your hours are submitted and approved by the required deadlines.
